25th Anniversary Dinner
March 11th 2006 – the 25th anniversary of the founding of Finham Choral Society. We gathered at Brandon Hall Hotel, for once without the layers of woollies required at St Martin’s Church! Instead we emerged like butterflies from cocoons and looked splendid.
This was a very happy and intimate occasion and an opportunity to meet old friends and former members. John Rutter was our very welcome guest of honour, making time in his busy schedule. So busy, in fact, that he had to leave early, but not before he paid a generous tribute to the Society and had circulated the room speaking to as many of us as he could.
For me, the highlight of the evening was Francine Barlow's witty and entertaining account of the birth of Finham Choral Society, delivered so elegantly. You could have a whole new career on the after dinner speaker circuit, Francine!
With the support and guidance of Ladi, may we have many more years of making music together.
Report from 'A.Member'
Party!

As regular visitors to our Web Site will know FCSC is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary year, but when the committee decided to arrange a social evening for choir members, did they really appreciate the wealth of talent they were to unleash on an unsuspecting audience?
Extrovert
Arrangements were finalised and volunteers were recruited to provide the entertainment for the evening. Surprisingly, several individuals, many not previously not known for extrovert tendencies provided some unusual entertainment. The evening was attended by about 50 people consisting of choir members, partners and friends.
Legs, belly, road and church
Sandra and Derek provided their usual witty insight to stories of everyday life, spiced up with a few articles of costume and recounted in their inimitable rhyming verse. At one point Sandra whipped off her skirt to reveal a pair of 'hu..humm' sprightly legs and cycling shorts.
Daphne wanted to get to the church on time and came dressed for the occasion, while John took the road to Dundee. (Not sure if these two performances were meant to compliment each other but they almost did).
Bridget provided us with a rendition about her cat in a typically incomprehensible 'jordy' accent and Shirley sang to us so sweetly(?).
Probably the biggest surprise of the evening came when Frances, not one to normally flaunt her ….errr ….. talents, treated us to a sample of eastern delight with her presentation of an Egyptian belly dance! (Rumour has it that Frances is hard at work practicing the dance of the seven veils! …… When's the next social event?…….)

Short Back and Sides?
Following a short break for food and refreshments the entertainment continued. A barbershop quartet gave us a sample of their extensive repertoire. One of the group, Paul, sings bass with FCSC. The close harmony singing was well appreciated by the audience and made a subtle change to the four-part harmony we are used to. Thanks lads.
What Next?
This was a very different social occasion enjoyed by all, which provided choir members, partners and friends an opportunity to shine in an entirely unexpected way. Maybe we have one or two budding soloists in our midst. Any thoughts on how we can use a belly dancer in our next concert?
