Meifod Concert
18th June 2005

The weather forecast said it would be hot, with clear blue skies and 31oC. For once, they were correct, but apparently, the coach company thought they knew better! Our journey from Coventry to Meifod in Powys, Wales started in the heat of the day in a coach with no air conditioning! The three-hour journey took a 'scenic' route at one stage when somewhere near Shrewsbury, we went three times round a roundabout before taking the appropriate exit!

We did try to get into the centre of Shrewsbury for a short break, but it was closed off for the annual carnival. Not a particularly auspicious start to the day.

However, things took a turn for the better on arrival at Meifod where Francine had organised refreshments for the choir at the 'Top Shop' Tea Rooms. Very welcome it was and greatly appreciated.

Thank you Francine!

The concert took place in the village church of St Tysilio and St Mary and was given in aid of the tower restoration fund.

Photos shown here give an indication of the beautiful setting in which we were to perform and of the tower that sported some wonderful gargoyle caricatures. [I just can't think who they reminded me of]

The concert was well received by the audience who took time out afterwards to socialise with choir members to express their appreciation.

The day ended on a glorious summer's evening, a glass of wine and refreshments being provided by the church.
Thirty-Five members of the choir eventually arrived home just before midnight, weary, but well content with what we had achieved during our first (and hopefully not last) visit to Meifod.

P.S. Latest report has it that we raised in excess of £300, a really wonderful achivement for a small community as Meifod.

P.P.S. As previously mentioned in other concert reports, it is a well-known fact that our Director of Music (Ladi Merriman-Johnson) cannot resist the chance to try out the church organ - especially if it is a pipe organ as in this case. Here he is, at it again!
