Voice Training Workshop

How little I knew about how to look after those precious vocal chords. How little I knew about how to make pictures in my head to help me remember the words, and, how little I knew about how to use my body and face to get the most out of my voice.
These were just some of the topics covered by Lin Marsh at Finham Choral Society, Coventry 'Voice Training Workshop'.

A Good Attendance
Around 70 people attended the session at St Martin in the Field, Green Lane, Coventry on Saturday 7th Feb 2004. FCSC was well represented, as was Coventry Philharmonic Choir. The numbers were augmented by many friends and people new to FCSC.

Voice Type and Style
We learned how to sing with our speaking voice, and our head voice. How to control our voice style from 'operatic' to 'wicked witch' quality. We learned how to mix voice types and styles and how to use them effectively, by singing short pieces composed by Lin.

Drama and song
I am not sure how we can put some of the dramatic effects to good use in our choral works (such as 'Elijah' - see Programme) but the mind boggles at what warm up exercises we might be asked to perform at our next rehearsal evening.

Intense and Interactive
A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all, any inhibitions we had before we started were soon dispelled as the exercises became more intense and interactive.
Well done to all those who took part, and thank you to all those who came to support FCSC in this venture. We hope to see you all again soon. Keep an eye on our programme
