Breaking out of the mould

In 1985 Finham Choral Society joined forces with the Coventry Philharmonic Choir to present Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana', together with Coleridge-Taylor's 'Hiawatha's Wedding Feast'. This was quite some occasion for an as yet very young choir.

FCSC conductor at the time was Robert Wright and Lynn Adams was our accompanist. Soloists for the performance were:
Philip Russell: Tenor
Patricia Garnham: Soprano
Robert Carpenter Turner: Baritone

The programme for Carmina Burana credited FCSC as being greatly involved with other groups, entertaining residents at a home for blind people and raising £100 for Save the Children Fund.

There is no credit for the orchestra - who ever they were. The conductor during the performance was John Dowding; the then conductor of Coventry Philharminc choir.

What a baptism of fire this event was. Carmina Burana was the first concert piece that I sung with Finham Choral Society. Having joined the choir the Chrstmas before this event I was lulled into a sense of false security - singing well known carols and learning a few new ones. All pretty tame stuff.
